choosing good literature

The other night I got to go hear Michele Watts 2009 Oregon Mother of the year speak, it was so great. She when over choosing good literature I learned a lot and was so excited to be able to hear what she had to say.

you may have tangible wealth untold:
Caskets of Jewels and coffers of gold.
Richer than I you can never be-
I had a Mother who read to me.
"The Reading Mother" by Stickland Gililan

She went over why its so important to read to our kids and what to look for in literature. The different kinds of literature and why poetry is so important. Then she suggested a bunch of great books here are just I few that I am excited to one day own.

The Best Christmas Pageant Ever
just like it says on the book, "One of the best Christmas books ever."

Silly Sally is one that your kid will love and want to be read over and over,

King Bidgood's in the Bathtub is just beautiful art and just a great book.
Tuesday has very few words, but the pictures are awesome.

Snowflake Bentley is about the first person who photographed snowflakes and is is a great book.
David Shannon is one of my authors!

Now for my favorite illustrators...
its so fun to say that I know him and have received his Christmas cards that he has made.
BRANDON DORMAN
He has so many books out there here is one he just wrote and illustrated Santa's Stowaway, other ones that you have seen around are The Christmas Sweater, and Pingo.
So here are some awesome books for you for Christmas gifts this year!

Oh and after the presentation we asked questions and she gave us all two books.
Yay for books!!

Of course I love this post! :)

I'm glad it was a good evening. My mom is pretty amazing that way.
